Real Estate Tips From a New Homeowner

Moving In The Rain! Just Moving In The Rain! Tips To Help Your Move Go Off Smoothly Even In The Rain

Most people cannot change their moving date simply because the forecast calls for rain. While rain can make moving a bit more challenging, it doesn't have to put a damper on your entire day. Here are a few of the tips that you can follow to help your move go as smoothly as possible if it is raining out:

Minimize the Distance Boxes Have to Travel in the Rain

One of the best tips to keep in mind when you are moving in the rain is to minimize the distance that boxes have to travel in the rain. Rain can damage your boxes. The water weakens them, which can cause them to fall apart and break. Ideally, you would back the moving truck up to your garage and load up there, minimizing the amount of rain that gets on the boxes. But if this isn't an option, look for another way to reduce the distance the boxes have to travel from your home to the truck and then from the truck to your new home.

Lay Tarps or Cardboard Down on Your Floors

Another tip to follow when you are moving on a rainy day to lay tarps or pieces of cardboard down on your floors. After laying the cardboard or tarps down, be sure to tape them into place, so they don't slip or slide. Laying tarps or cardboard down helps to prevent someone slipping on slick tiles or your carpets from getting muddy and stained.

Shrink Wrap Furniture

When it is raining out, you need to take extra care to protect your furniture. Shrink wrapping the furniture can help keep moisture off of the item as it travels to and from the moving truck. It also helps to protect wood furniture from scratches during transport. If it is raining, be sure to wrap up your furniture.

Make Towels Accessible to Easily Dry Hands

The last tip to follow to help your move go smoothly on a rainy day is to make towels easily accessible so you and your helpers can dry their hands. If your hands are slick or wet, it may be harder to grip or grasp items, which may cause them to slip out of someone's hands. Place a couple of hand towels by the entrance to your doors and in the front of the moving truck so hands can easily be dried and cleaned.

If you are planning a move, consider hiring a mover for your big day. A mover can help your move go as smoothly as possible, even when it is raining out. Many people make the mistake of thinking that a moving service will cost too much, but in some cases, it may not be that much more than renting a truck and moving yourself. Contact movers like Bekins Van Lines Inc in your area today to obtain estimates. A moving service can help you avoid worrying about anything, including rain, on your moving day.

About Me

Real Estate Tips from a New Homeowner

While some people "wing it" when purchasing their first home, I went about the process differently. I put a lot of research into home market trends before even deciding where I would like my new home to be located and learned about all of the steps of the buying process. Once I was ready to start looking at homes, I hired a real estate agent who was very impressed with all the knowledge I had accumulated about the home-buying process before I even owned my first home! I love learning, so I actually greatly enjoyed learning all about real estate, and I am still keeping on top of the latest real estate news and trends since I know they will come in handy when I decide to upgrade into a larger home in the future. I decided to help others by sharing what I have learned on a blog!
