Real Estate Tips From a New Homeowner

What Should You Choose – To Buy Or Build Your New Home?

When you are in the market for a new home you have several choices to make. You need to know where you want to live, do you want a condo or a detached house or do you want to buy an existing home or build a new one? The choice of buying an existing home or building a new one comes with advantages and disadvantages to both. Take are look at what some of the differences are.

Faster to Buy an Existing Home

One thing that buying an existing home has is it is faster to buy one already there than to build a brand new home. You simply have to check out the listings in your area for homes that are for sale, do a tour of the property, put in an offer and hope it gets accepted and then buy it. It can happen within a very short time frame.

When you build a new home, you have to meet with a company to help you design it, purchase the land – if you don't already own some, and wait for the construction. It doesn't take as long you might think to build a new home but it definitely will take longer than buying one already built.

Customization

A huge advantage that building your own home has is that you can completely customize it to match your needs and wants perfectly. Even if you have a budget you must stick to, there are ways to get pretty much whatever you want or need into a new home. An existing home is much harder to make your own. If it doesn't have something like a renovated kitchen or full basement, you will need to budget into your purchase price for the renovation and either live around it or wait until it's completed to move in.

Healthier Choice and Cost Less in Long Run

A great perk of a brand new construction is the fact that is typically a healthier option. A brand new house will not have mold, toxic materials, lead paint, asbestos or any other element within it that can hurt your health.

They are generally more energy efficient too. For example, the HVAC systems – heating, cooling, and ventilation systems will be up-to-date with the latest technology.

A new home will most likely cost you less in utilities too. When a home is new with all the latest appliances, plumbing, electrical and more, it doesn't draw the same kind of energy for power, water or waste disposal. This will save you a lot of money in the coming years. COntact a custom home builder for help.

About Me

Real Estate Tips from a New Homeowner

While some people "wing it" when purchasing their first home, I went about the process differently. I put a lot of research into home market trends before even deciding where I would like my new home to be located and learned about all of the steps of the buying process. Once I was ready to start looking at homes, I hired a real estate agent who was very impressed with all the knowledge I had accumulated about the home-buying process before I even owned my first home! I love learning, so I actually greatly enjoyed learning all about real estate, and I am still keeping on top of the latest real estate news and trends since I know they will come in handy when I decide to upgrade into a larger home in the future. I decided to help others by sharing what I have learned on a blog!
